Current IYAB Members – 2018-2019
The International Youth Advisory Board (IYAB) is made up of 24 outstanding youth volunteers from across the United States and Canada. Each of these youth volunteers have displayed leadership, commitment and a love for service in their local YVC programs. They have been selected to serve on IYAB to bring youth voice to YVC as an organization and grow themselves as leaders by bringing new ideas back to their local programs.
Brett Budnik - YVC of Alpena
Hi my name is Brett Budnik and I am from Alpena, Michigan. I am 15 years old and I have been volunteering with YVC Alpena since I was in the sixth grade! I am currently a sophomore at Alpena High School. YVC has really helped me be able to learn more about my community and its needs. I enjoy bike riding, swimming, and hanging out with my dog “Bubba”. Alpena is in Northeastern part of the lower peninsula in Michigan. I have lived here my entire life, but boy we sure do have cold winters! I am honored to be able to be a part of IYAB and have the chance to learn more about other YVC groups!
Sarah Campbell - YVC of Ann Arbor
Hi! My name is Sarah Campbell, I’m from the Ann Arbor YVC and I’m going into my senior year at Pinckney High School. Aside from my obvious love of service and volunteering, I am very passionate about the arts, such as theater and music, as well as traveling and photography. I’ve been a part of my school’s theater company for 3 years now, and I’ve played the guitar, ukulele, and bass for about 6 years. As for the traveling and photography, I’ve always loved seeing and learning things in new places and I think it’s super fun to capture moments on camera whether it’s the new places I’ve gone to or just fun photo shoots with friends.
Anisha Fujii - YVC of Ann Arbor
Hi, my name is Anisha Fujii. I’m 16 and I will be a junior this upcoming year. I have volunteered with the Ann Arbor YVC for the past two years, and it has been an amazing experience! I love playing sports including soccer and cross country, and my favorite subject in school is math. My parents are from Japan and Sri Lanka, so I have a very diverse background. I really enjoy visiting these two countries, as I love to travel around the world.
Connor Lang - YVC of Calgary
Hi, I’m Connor! I’m fifteen-years-old and have been volunteering with YVC in Calgary for over a year. I enjoy working on projects focusing on mental health and the environment. I have lived in Calgary all my life, and enjoy the strong sense of community and diversity that my city has to offer. Last year, I received the award for the highest overall average in grade ten, and I hope to study neuroscience after high school. I am excited for a great year with IYAB!
Martina Min - YVC of Calgary
Hi, my name is Martina and I’m from Calgary, Alberta! I’m going to be in grade 11 for the 2018-2019 school year. I have been a YVC volunteer since 2015 and I love volunteering! I am also a member of my local YVC Steering Committee and the Calgary Mayor’s Youth Council. I am passionate about mental health awareness and I’m part of a mental health initiative called the Speak Your Mind Project! Besides volunteering, I love swimming, hiking, reading and listening to music! I’m looking forward to my third year on IYAB and meeting more youth volunteers across North America!
Malorie Hunt - YVC of Cedar City
Hey! My name is Malorie Hunt. I am fifteen years old and a Sophomore at Canyon View High School and SUCCESS Academy in Cedar City, Utah. I love to bake, play the violin, do spray paint art, play softball, YVC, and many other things. I’ve been type one diabetic for about nine years. I am the middle child of eight people (six kids) in my family and my little brother Colton has special needs (he has Angelman’s Syndrome). I am often referred to as the mom of our YVC. As career I would like to help people with special needs. I like to have fun and to hang out with friends.
Keory Ancrum - YVC of Charleston
I’m Keory Ancrum a rising 9th grader at James Island Charter High School. I joined Youth Volunteer Corps of Charleston in June, 2016 and have been volunteering ever since! I have attended two years of the Summer Service-Learning Institute. My favorite event was preparing meals for families at the Ronald McDonald who have children hospitalized at the Medical University of SC. I am a member of the Youth Advisory Board for YVC of Charleston and am the first member to become the YVC Brand Ambassador of Charleston. I was recognized during the National Volunteer Week as one of the top volunteers. I enjoy basketball, swimming, and baseball. I live by the theme, “In order to see a change, you got to BE the change.”
Ian Gimino - YVC of Corvallis
My name is Ian Gimino, and I am 16. I have been doing YVC for 5 years. This will be the third year serving on IYAB, and my fourth year serving on Corvallis’s Youth Advisory Board. I’m now a junior at Crescent Valley High School, and I like to play baseball and the piano. I love to spend time with my family, read, and travel. My favorite projects to do with YVC are ones where you have to be outside since I love being in the outdoors.
Hannah Christison - YVC of Corvallis
Hi! I’m Hannah! I am 14 and going into my Sophomore year of high school at Frontier Charter Academy (Online), here in Corvallis Oregon. I was born in Eugene and lived in Utah for 5 years. Someday I would like to move to London England. I enjoy Sabre fencing, acting, reading, and of course, I love to volunteer. This will be my third year with YVC, and I am a part of our local Youth Advisory Board.
Jessica Hovermale - YVC of Corvallis
My name is Jessica Hovermale and I am a junior at Crescent Valley High School in Corvallis, Oregon. I’ve been participating in YVC for three years now and have been part of our local Youth Advisory Board for about two years. I love volunteering throughout the community and I especially enjoy working with the Humane Society. I love animals and have two dogs at home. I participate in Modern Dance and I love art! I am a president of a school environmental club and I am part of a TEDx Club where we host TED-style events.
Catarina Silva - YVC of Danbury
Hi, my name is Cat! I’ve been serving with YVC of Western Connecticut for about 6 years now. I started off with the summer of service camp and as I grew older, I became more involved in community projects throughout the year. Aside from YVC, I am a member of several clubs including, the National Honors Society, DECA, peer leadership and the National Business Honors Society. In addition, I play competitive soccer year round for my high school and club team. YVC has been a part of me throughout my middle school and high school years. It has truly helped in shaping who I am as an individual and the experience I’ve gained from projects, have allowed me to apply them to daily situations. I’m so excited to start my next chapter with YVC and make a difference.
Micah Chen - YVC of Danbury
My name is Micah Chen. I am part of the YVC of Danbury, and I’ve been volunteering with YVC for over four years! I will be a senior this fall at Danbury High School and I’m so excited to be on IYAB! When not volunteering or doing schoolwork, you can find me hanging out in the pool or hiking outside. I also love traveling and learning about different people and countries. I’m looking forward to an amazing year on the IYAB!
Jenny Nguyen - YVC of Des Moines
My name is Jenny Nguyen, I will be a senior at North high school. Besides YVC I am involved in National Honor society and upward bound, just to name a few. I really enjoy cooking and during my free time I like to go running at the lake. I am apart of my school’s cheer and tennis teams. I am also in yearbook, which is one of my passions.
Paula-Ann Robertson - YVC of Hampton Roads
Hi everyone! My name is Paula-Ann Robertson and I am excited to be serving on the International Youth Advisory Board for the 2018-19 year! I am a senior in high school from Tidewater, Virginia. Besides serving with YVC, I am a member of varsity swimming, varsity softball and club sailing at my high school. My favorite hobbies include reading, hiking, cooking, and learning new languages. I love having unique experiences and meeting new people! Through YVC, I have found a passion for serving others that I hope to carry throughout my life.
Zoe Thompson - YVC of Kansas City
Hi, I’m Zoe! I’m a senior in high school, from the Kansas City area. I have been with Youth Volunteer Corps for 6 years, and on my local Youth Advisory Board for 4 years. This is my second year on the International Youth Advisory Board, and I am excited to work with other youth volunteers from across the U.S. and Canada to improve the global community through service. In my free time, I enjoy reading, playing the cello, and playing with my golden retriever.
Patton Meacham - YVC of Kansas City
My name is Patton Meacham and I am currently a senior at Blue Valley North High School in Kansas City. I have been volunteering with Youth Volunteer Corps for the past 7 years and have served on my local Youth Advisory Board for the past 5 years. In school, I am interested in both mathematics and science and am also involved in many school-sponsored clubs such as DECA and Spanish club. Additionally, I play varsity lacrosse and continually strive to help my community.
Jonathan Hoepner - YVC of Manhattan
I’m Jonathan Hoepner, a junior at Manhattan High School in Manhattan, Kansas. I have been a member of the YVC program for three years. During my time with YVC, I have volunteered at 110 service projects and have served on our YVC Advisory Board. I am also an active member in Kansas 4-H serving as a 4-H Ambassador and Junior Project Leader. My high school activities include serving as the Electrical Team Leader for my high school robotics team and serving as a member of National Honor Society. I enjoy volunteering, competing with my dog and spending time with my family.
Audra Beeson - YVC of Muskogee
Hi, my name is Audra Beeson and I am in 10th grade. I’m from Broken Arrow, Oklahoma and have been volunteering with YVC in Muskogee for 4 years. I love to ride horses, spend time at the lake, do makeup, and read. This is my second year on our local youth advisory board but my first on IYAB! I enjoy volunteering because it allows me to help others, get out of my comfort zone, and have fun. My favorite project that I volunteer at is Camp Bennett, which is a summer day camp for children, teens, and adults with special needs.
Andy Chek - YVC of Philadelphia
Hey there! My name is Andy Chek. I am a proud member of YVC Philadelphia and have been volunteering with Youth Volunteer Corps since my freshman year of high school. I love meeting new people and I am not afraid to get out of my comfort zone. While I enjoy going on that morning run or playing a game of badminton, there’s a chance you’ll find me snuggled up in a corner binge-watching TV shows like How I Met Your Mother. After high school, I hope to study engineering in college and to continue to help out my community through service.
Jessica Jiang - YVC of Philadelphia
My name is Jessica Jiang and I’m a rising senior in high school. I have been volunteering with YVC of Philadelphia since 2015. My hobbies include baking (especially when stressed), editing videos, messing around with technology and of course, volunteering. In college, I am hoping to major in computer science or engineering. I am very much not a morning person and tend to be more productive during night hours. This is my third year volunteering with YVC and second year on IYAB. I’ve seen many growths in the program and hope that more great things will come.
Sashank Sridhar - YVC of Reading
My name is Sashank Sridhar, and I am a rising senior at Wilson High School in West Lawn, PA. Outside of my passion for volunteering, music has always been an integral part of my life. I am a jazz saxophonist, pianist, and Indian Classical vocalist. Trust me, they are not as different as they sound! I also enjoy reading and talking about politics (with whoever will indulge). I can say for sure that I am open-minded about exposing myself to new ideas and cultures through traveling the country and the world. I look forward to serving on the board this year!
Leah Craig - YVC of St. Joseph
Hi, my name is Leah Craig. I volunteer with YVC in St.Joseph, Missouri. My favorite volunteer project is gathering food bags for children or making senior boxes that will be delivered to their homes. I am a junior at Savannah High School and involved in many activities. I am a high school ambassador, a drum major in band, golf captain of the girls golf team, and an active member of DECA. I strive to make my community a better place and to voice that there are always options to get out of any situation you are in.
Claire Kellick - YVC of St. Louis
Hi! My name is Claire Kellick and I will be entering 11th grade this year. I am a part of the YVC of St. Louis, Missouri and have been since it was founded in early 2018. I love math and science and I hope to become an engineer. I am a part of the varsity softball team at my school, as well as Amnesty International, and the Anti-Defamation League. A memorable moment from my YVC experience was our first meeting. It was at the APA and I fell in love with a dog that is now part of my family!
Grace Davidson - YVC of Terrace
Hi, my name is Grace Davidson! I will be entering 9th grade this year. I am 15 in March. I am apart of YVC of Terrace BC Canada. I’ve been in it since the start, last year. I have been volunteering since I was 4 years old with my mom. My favorite subjects in school are PE and English. I hope to become a forensic photographer for the police. The only sport I’m in is softball and I’ve been playing for about 7 years, I’ll be trying out for Summer Games 2020.
